Over the weekend, CNN released its latest presidential tracking poll, revealing some intriguing insights into the American public’s views of Donald Trump’s presidency.
One noteworthy finding was that Trump still holds a commanding lead in the race for the White House, with 49% of registered voters supporting him in a head-to-head matchup against Joe Biden. This number has remained steady since the last poll conducted in January. Meanwhile, Biden’s support stands at 43%, a slight decrease from 45% in January.
However, perhaps even more surprising is that most Americans now view Trump’s presidency as a success. According to the poll, 55% of all Americans consider his time in office a success, while only 44% see it as a failure. This is a significant jump from January, when 55% believed his presidency was a failure.
When third-party candidates were included in the matchup, Trump still held the lead with 42%, followed by Biden at 33%. These numbers suggest that if the election were held today, Trump would easily return to the White House.
However, CNN political commentator Alice Stewart pointed out the glaring contradiction in these findings, stating that Trump would go “from the courthouse to the White House” without any hesitation from the American public.
This finding triggered CNN’s Jim Acosta, who expressed shock and disbelief at American voters’ supposed short-term memory. He specifically referenced the COVID-19 pandemic and the January 6th Capitol incursion as reasons why it is “extraordinary” that Americans view Trump’s presidency as a success.
Stewart responded with a valid question: How is it that Democrats have not been able to communicate their message to voters effectively?
Acosta’s reaction is not surprising, considering his history with Trump. He has a long-standing bias against the former president and has been known to spew his opinions rather than report unbiased news.
This is not the first time Acosta has been triggered by polling that goes against his personal beliefs. Last December, he was baffled by Americans’ failure to celebrate the supposed successes of Joe Biden’s economic agenda.
Ultimately, this latest poll’s findings reveal a disconnect between the mainstream media’s portrayal of Trump’s presidency and how the American public truly perceives it. It is clear that many Americans view his time in office as a success despite the media’s constant demonization of him.
