At the President’s Request, Judge Orders Texas to Weaken Border Security – Watch

A federal judge has ordered Texas to weaken its border security measures, in a major victory for the Biden administration.

Senior U.S. District Court Judge David Ezra ordered Texas officials to remove floating barriers in the Rio Grande that Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) installed to thwart the deluge of illegal aliens coming into the country under Biden.

“The Court has found that the United States is likely to succeed on the merits of its claim that Defendants have violated [the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899],” Ezra wrote, according to The Dallas Morning News. “The Court also finds that Texas’s conduct irreparably harms the public safety, navigation, and the operations of federal agency officials in and around the Rio Grande.”

The Texas governor’s administration had previously argued that the Rivers and Harbors Act shouldn’t apply because that particular part of the Rio Grande is too shallow for boats and other vessels to navigate.

In response to Wednesday’s ruling, the Texas governor pledged to fight it.

”This ruling is incorrect and will be overturned on appeal,” Abbott said in a statement. “We will continue to utilize every strategy to secure the border, including deploying Texas National Guard soldiers and Department of Public Safety troopers and installing strategic barriers.”

Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador condemned Abbott for his actions.

“No one should be treated like this,” Lopez Obrador said last month. “That kind of treatment does not come from a good person; only by being good can we be happy.”

Abbott isn’t done, he promised to build more guardrails and to defend Texas’ land.

“We will continue to utilize every strategy to secure the border, including deploying Texas National Guard soldiers and Department of Public Safety troopers and installing strategic barriers,” Abbott said Wednesday. “Our battle to defend Texas’ sovereign authority to protect lives from the chaos caused by President Biden’s open border policies has only begun. Texas is prepared to take this fight all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.”
