Newly released documents show that Biden and other Obama officials sought to “torpedo” the incoming Trump administration in the weeks leading up to the 2017 inauguration.
Through a Freedom of Information Act request, The Daily Signal acquired 217 pages of documents.
“The documents reveal that Obama administration officials, from Vice President Joe Biden down to several ambassadors and many officials in the Treasury and Energy departments, gained access to secret information about Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, President-elect Trump’s choice for national security adviser,” the report says. “The documents obtained by The Daily Signal include raw information of requests and other messages from these officials to the National Security Agency in late November 2016 through early January 2017, as well as emails among NSA officials explaining why the information was shared.”
Flynn’s “unmasking,” spearheaded by some of Barack Obama’s top advisers ultimately led to Flynn’s resignation as Trump’s national security advisor after just 23 days. This incident also played a crucial role in the investigation into the Trump-Russia collusion hoax during the 2016 presidential election.
The documents reveal that a group of Obama officials, including Biden, Jake Sullivan, and Ben Rhodes, met in the days after the election to discuss how to “slow walk” the transition process and “make it as difficult as possible” for Trump to take office.
The documents also show that the Obama officials discussed ways to undermine Trump’s foreign policy agenda and to leak classified information to the media.
The revelations have sparked outrage among conservatives, who have accused the Obama officials of engaging in a “coup” against Trump.
“This is a clear case of political corruption,” said one conservative commentator. “These Obama officials were trying to subvert the democratic process and to prevent Trump from taking office.”
The full extent of the Obama officials’ efforts to “torpedo” the Trump administration is still unknown. However, the revelations that have been made so far are deeply disturbing, and they raise serious questions about the Obama administration’s commitment to democratic norms.
