Ah yes, the party of compassion strikes again. Over the weekend, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas—already something of a walking Twitter feed of hot takes and bad decisions—decided the best way to uplift her progressive ideals was to mock a man paralyzed from the waist down. Because nothing says tolerance and empathy quite like calling a wheelchair-bound governor “Governor Hot Wheels” in front of a cheering crowd at a Human Rights Campaign fundraiser in Los Angeles.
Let’s be clear: Greg Abbott has been paralyzed since 1984 after a tree literally fell on him while he was jogging. It was a freak accident, a moment that changed his life forever. But instead of folding, he fought. He rose through the legal ranks, became attorney general, then governor of Texas—and not just any governor, but a Republican governor standing firm against the Biden administration on border security, COVID mandates, and parental rights. And for that, Crockett thinks the appropriate response is playground-level mockery?
Imagine for just one second if a Republican stood on a stage, looked into a camera, and mocked a disabled Democrat like this. We would have MSNBC running emergency coverage every hour on the hour. CNN would be wheeling in body language experts and trauma counselors. The New York Times would dedicate an entire Sunday spread to the “rise of ableist hate in the GOP.” But when it’s a Democrat? Crickets. Or worse—laughter.
Crockett’s defenders (and yes, there are some out there who seem to think this was just a “joke”) say we need to lighten up. They say she was just trying to connect with her audience. Let’s not forget the audience in question: a well-heeled room full of progressive donors who apparently found it hilarious that a Republican can’t walk. Nothing says “moral high ground” like a champagne toast to ableist slurs.

The Republican response has been swift—and rightfully so. Sen. Markwayne Mullin reminded folks that Abbott’s injury was a result of a tragic accident. Riley Gaines, who has become something of a firebrand in conservative circles, suggested we give Crockett a microphone more often if this is the caliber of political discourse she’s offering up. And Charlie Kirk said what many were thinking, albeit in a more blunt tone: this isn’t just a bad look—it’s disgraceful.
Matt Walsh posted on X saying, “It’s not remarkable that a trashy ghetto dimwit like Jasmine Crockett would make fun of disabled people. What’s revealing is that the crowd at the “Human Rights Campaign” loudly applauded. Everything you need to know about leftist “human rights” groups.”
This is the new face of the Democratic Party. Not content to debate policies or ideas, they’ve pivoted to insults, personal attacks, and, in Crockett’s case, casual violence. She’s also on record—multiple times—saying Sen. Ted Cruz needs to be “punched” and “knocked over the head.” If a Republican said anything like that, they’d already be canceled, expelled, and sent off for a re-education seminar hosted by Joy Behar. But Crockett? She gets a standing ovation.
JUST IN: Rep. Jasmine Crockett blasts Trump supporters for “misinterpreting” what she said when she referred to Gov. Greg Abbott as “Gov. Hot Wheels.”
Crockett says she is appalled that people think she was referring to his wheelchair.
Lmao. Next level gaslighting right here. pic.twitter.com/qQ99rByUj6

Texas deserves better than this. Congress deserves better than this. And frankly, so does the country. The double standard is so glaring it could light up the Dallas skyline. Crockett’s words weren’t just crass—they revealed exactly what kind of politics the far left is trafficking in these days: petty, performative, and utterly devoid of class.
And while Crockett’s busy trying to score viral moments on stage, Abbott’s out there actually governing—taking on the border crisis, pushing back against federal overreach, and standing up for Texans. He’s rolling forward—literally and figuratively—while Crockett and her applause-hungry allies are stuck spinning in circles of their own self-righteous nonsense.
So yes, Democrats, please do keep handing Jasmine the microphone. Republicans aren’t afraid of her insults—they’re counting on them. Because every time she opens her mouth, voters get a clear reminder of just how far the so-called “party of empathy” has fallen.
