But instead of addressing those concerns, Reeve seemed more interested in questioning whether someone who owns a boat should even be complaining at all.
The whole exchange felt like a classic case of liberal condescension. You know the drill – the narrative that if you’re not living in a cardboard box, you shouldn’t worry about inflation. Reeve zeroed in on Trump supporter Joe Harner, who dared to voice his concerns about the rising cost of living.
Harner, a retired military man who worked hard for his money, made it clear that no one handed him anything. But apparently, if you’ve got a boat, according to Reeve, that must mean you’re doing just fine, and high prices shouldn’t bother you. Clearly, only the super-wealthy should care about the cost of groceries and gas, right?
“Let me ask a slightly impolite question,” Reeve started as if what came next wasn’t going to be an outright jab. “But if you can afford a boat, you’re not hurting so bad, right?” Because in Reeve’s world, boats mean you’ve somehow escaped inflation. Forget that Harner is just one of countless Americans who worked hard, made smart choices, and still feels the pinch every time he goes to the grocery store.
Harner didn’t hesitate to fire back. “Nobody gave me s—!” he exclaimed, reminding her that he earned every penny through years of service and hard work. But instead of listening, Reeve doubled down, pointing out that groceries probably aren’t a big deal for him compared to others. The problem with this logic? She seems to think the only people who should care about inflation are those on the brink of financial ruin. Meanwhile, the rest of us are supposed to shrug off skyrocketing prices because, hey, we’ve got a roof over our heads.
This is classic CNN – downplay concerns about the economy if you’re not struggling to survive but ignore the fact that inflation doesn’t care whether you’re rich or poor. Everyone’s money is worth less. And it’s worth a lot less than it was four years ago. Food prices alone are up over 22%. But somehow, in the liberal mindset, you’re not supposed to notice unless you’re flat broke.
Harner nailed it when he explained that inflation affects everyone, rich or poor. He wants his money to go further. Who doesn’t? That’s the point. But to people like Reeve, it seems the idea of wanting lower interest rates or a stronger economy is only valid if you’re financially suffering.
