Peter Stinson, a retired U.S. Coast Guard lieutenant and former Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) instructor, has been arrested and federally charged for making repeated and graphic threats to assassinate President Donald Trump. The case, outlined in a 19-page affidavit from the FBI, reveals a disturbing five-year pattern of online threats that ranged from implied murder plots to solicitations for contract killings.
Stinson, who reportedly identifies with the Antifa movement, served 33 years in the Coast Guard and was recognized for his marksmanship. According to federal documents, he used platforms such as X and Bluesky to post increasingly violent and detailed threats toward Trump between 2020 and 2025.

His posts invoked various methods, including firearms, knives, and poison. While he admitted to lacking the ability to carry out such an act himself, he repeatedly expressed willingness to assist or finance someone else to do so. For instance, in one post he stated he would serve in a “support capacity” or contribute to a “contract hit.”

Stinson’s rhetoric reportedly escalated after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 2024. Within two days of that incident, Stinson posted:
“Just three inches and today would be a different day.”
He then criticized the assailant’s skill level, revealing both his obsession with the attack’s failure and an alarming level of preoccupation with violent outcomes.
Stinson used a series of code words and nicknames to reference Trump online — including “the orange,” “orange thug,” “tfg,” “Krasnov,” and even an orange emoji. But the context left little doubt about his intent. Prosecutors emphasized recent threats:
- April 4, 2024: “Does it make me a bad person to want tfg dead? Would I be a bad person if I pulled the trigger?”
- March 4, 2025: “Can we start a go fund me for a hitman?”
- March 9, 2025: “He needs to be luigied,” — a reference to a known violent criminal, reportedly used as slang for targeted murder.
