DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announced on Thursday that all Washington DC public schools will start on August 31 virtually until November 6th.

Students that do not have access to the internet will be given the necessary technology need for them to be able to attend school. According to a report from schools Chancellor Lewis Ferebee 44 percent of students in DC do not have internet access.

Students who do not have Internet access or a computer at home will be provided with the necessary technology, the mayor’s office said. Schools Chancellor Lewis Ferebee said D.C. had been collecting data from more than 13,000 respondents and found 44 percent of students do not have access to a device at home.

However, Bowser sent a warning to teachers that refuse to come back to the classroom in November.
“You know, I’m just going to speak candidly, if we don’t have teachers who want to come in person, we would have to find another set of adults who want to come in person,” Bowser said.
Bowser comments were made after Donald Trump Jr. posted a New York Times article that reported teachers’ unions are not only fighting going back to the classroom but, also fighting to restrict teaching online.
