DeSantis Comments On Strike

Well, Kamala Harris is at it again, folks—this time throwing her support behind a massive strike that’s poised to wreak havoc on the U.S. economy. Tens of thousands of dock workers from the International Longshoremen’s Association walked off the job this week, shutting down ports along the East and Gulf Coasts. And what does the Vice President do? She gives them a big thumbs up, all while ignoring the billions of dollars in damage this strike is causing every single day.

In her only statement on the matter, Harris had the audacity to claim, “This strike is about fairness,” as if grinding the economy to a halt in the middle of hurricane recovery efforts is somehow fair. Sure, she’s quick to stand up for the longshoremen, accusing foreign shipping companies of making record profits. But here’s the thing—while she’s busy grandstanding, regular Americans are the ones who are going to feel the pain. Empty store shelves? Higher prices? Delayed rebuilding efforts? All of that is coming down the pipeline, and Kamala’s acting like it’s just business as usual.

“This strike is about fairness,” she claimed. “Foreign-owned shipping companies have made record profits, and executive compensation has grown. The Longshoremen, who play a vital role transporting essential goods across America, deserve a fair share of these record profits.”

Enter Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who’s not exactly mincing words. While Harris is busy playing politics, DeSantis is actually out there leading recovery efforts in his state and lending a hand to surrounding areas. At a press conference on Wednesday, he called out the Biden-Harris administration for failing to get a grip on the situation. “One of the things I’m concerned about is potentially these ports getting hung up,” DeSantis said. And he’s right to be worried. The last thing hurricane-ravaged communities need right now is for vital supplies to be stuck on ships, idling in the Atlantic while Washington plays union politics.

DeSantis made it clear that this strike couldn’t have come at a worse time. “I think it’s totally unacceptable to try to intentionally deprive people of the supplies they need to be able to rebuild their homes when they’ve been displaced at a natural disaster,” he said. And, frankly, he’s spot on. People are literally rebuilding their lives after being devastated by hurricanes, and Kamala Harris is out here cheerleading a strike that’s cutting off the flow of essential goods.

“We should be doing all we can, the federal government should be doing all they can, to make sure all the supplies continue to come in here unabated,” he continued

“Now is not the time,” DeSantis said. “You already have people that are reeling. You have people that are on their backs. Let’s do everything we can to accelerate the relief. Make sure that they have the equipment, make sure they have the supplies that they need to be able to rehab their properties and rebuild their homes.”

DeSantis didn’t stop there, though. He called out the administration’s failure to step in, warning that the strike could delay critical supplies by weeks—or longer. He also pointed out the obvious optics: “It would be [a] really, really bad look for the Biden-Harris administration to allow supplies to just be sitting in the Atlantic Ocean… when you have people, not just here in Pinellas County, but up our entire Gulf Coast in Big Bend, who need it.” That’s not just a bad look—it’s a political disaster waiting to happen.

The reality is, now is not the time for political games. We’re talking about people’s homes, livelihoods, and recovery from a natural disaster. And yet, the Biden-Harris administration seems perfectly content to sit on its hands while this strike drags on. Meanwhile, DeSantis is actually focused on getting things done—like ensuring that the supplies keep flowing so people can rebuild their lives.

So, while Kamala Harris plays the fairness card and sides with striking longshoremen, the rest of the country is left asking: where’s the leadership? Because right now, it’s certainly not coming from the White House. If the Biden-Harris administration allows this strike to continue unchecked, they’ll own every bit of the fallout—rising prices, supply shortages, and all.
