New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio just made an announcement that is crushing New Yorkers, he is unleashing new lockdown restrictions.
Mayor de Blasio is ordering nonessential businesses, public and private schools, and restaurants to close striating Wednesday in Brooklyn and Queens due to an increase in coronavirus cases.
“We’re having an extraordinary problem — something we haven’t seen since spring,’’ de Blasio said.
Governor Cuomo still has to approve the regional lockdown however, Cuomo just scolded municipalities for not imposing restrictions.
“This can only happen with state approval,’’ the mayor said, adding that this is “unchartered territory.” “We’ll be working to get approval.”
New York City has been hit hard by the coronavirus thanks to the poor leadership of Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo.
The city’s businesses have also faced incredible hardships, a recent audit by the state’s comptroller found that up to half of the city’s bars and restaurants will never reopen.
“The industry is challenging under the best of circumstances, and many eateries operate on tight margins,” said State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. “Now they face an unprecedented upheaval that may cause many establishments to close forever.”
Just last week, city restaurants were allowed to serve guests inside as long as they didn’t exceed 25% capacity.
“While 25% occupancy is better than nothing, it is not sustainable for the business to operate profitably,” said Shu Chowdhury, a restaurant operations expert. “It is, however, a good start to test safety procedures to smoothly and safely increase capacity as we approach colder weather that will reduce public interest in outdoor dining.”
As we’ve seen around the world when an area like Spain, Florida, Texas, and Arizona lifts their coronavirus cases the case numbers increase but then quickly drop off after a few weeks. On the other hand, New York City appears to be going the New Zealand route. Next thing you now de Blasio is going to have people ripped from their homes should they test positive into quarantine centers.
I shudder to think what is going to happen should Biden be elected in November.
