Dems Head To Retreat

The lights may be off in Washington, but the Democrats are packing their bags — not for negotiations, not for bipartisan talks, not even for the optics of pretending to care. No, they’re headed to Napa Valley. That’s right — with the Schumer Shutdown grinding into its first days, Democrat leadership is still set to clink $500 wine glasses with billionaire donors in California’s most exclusive playground.

You almost have to admire the consistency. These are the same politicians who spent the last 72 hours shrieking that Republicans were “burning down the government” and “hurting working families.” Yet while veterans, small business owners, and federal workers brace for uncertainty, the self-styled champions of the “little guy” will be sipping vintages that cost more than most Americans’ monthly mortgage payments.

To be clear, this retreat wasn’t slapped together overnight. It’s almost certainly been on the books for months. But here’s the problem: Democrats had days of warning that a shutdown was imminent. If they cared about optics — or more importantly, about governing — they could have postponed, rescheduled, or canceled. Instead, they plowed ahead, proving once again that the only thing less consistent than their message is their sense of accountability.

And so, the contrast sharpens. On one hand: Republicans, who offered a clean, short-term continuing resolution to keep government open while hammering out the details of appropriations. On the other: Democrats, who rejected it in favor of funding illegal alien healthcare, NPR bailouts, and other ideological handouts — then hopped a plane to Napa Valley the moment the cameras turned away.

You can already hear MSNBC spinning this into noble sacrifice: “They had to go to Napa — it shows how hard they’re working for you.” Cue the laugh track.

Meanwhile, everyday Americans are watching the hypocrisy in real time. Approval ratings already scraping the basement now risk tunneling into the bedrock. The Democrats’ base is shrinking — not because Republicans are surging, but because Democrats keep exposing themselves as out-of-touch elites who sneer at the very people they claim to represent.

The Schumer Shutdown is not the end of the world — despite what you’ll hear from every Democrat microphone over the next week. But it is the end of a façade. You can’t shut down the government “for the people” one night and jet off to Napa the next. Not unless you think the people are too blind to notice.
