DeSantis Debates Crist, Calls Him an ‘Old Donkey’ to Be ‘Put Out to Pasture’

It’s hard to “pin the tail on the donkey” that is former Florida Governor Charlie Crist. He was a GOP governor, lost as an Independent in a Senate race with Sen. Marco Rubio, and lost to Gov. DeSantis in the last governor’s race while running as a Democrat. Who is this guy and where’s his tail?

DeSantis and Crist met for a Florida gubernatorial debate on Monday, and Crist tried to pin down DeSantis by asking if he would serve a full four-year term if reelected to the office.

DeSantis declared that “the only worn out old donkey” he is seeking to “put out to pasture is Charlie Crist.”

DeSantis is extremely popular in Florida and beyond with political rights. Many people see him as someone who could become a Republican presidential candidate.

DeSantis spoke out strongly against allowing minors to undergo gender transition measures. He said that “when they say ‘gender-affirming care,’ they mean giving puberty blockers to teenage girls and teenage boys. They mean doing double mastectomies on young girls. They mean chemically castrating young boys. That is wrong.”

The governor described this as “inappropriate” to engage in what he said is essentially “genital mutilation.”

The popular governor also talked about his position on education within the state in the debate. He said, “I’m proud of our history. I don’t wanna teach kids to hate our country. I don’t wanna teach kids to hate each other. And the way to stop discrimination on the basis of race, is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.”

All Crist seemed to be able to do is talk about how DeSantis might run for president. That seems to be focusing on the governor’s popularity!

Crist labeled DeSantis as a political opportunist who’s more interested in his political ambitions than his job as governor.

“He won’t even tell you if he’ll serve four years if reelected,” Crist said, addressing Florida voters on Monday. “You deserve better than that. Florida deserves better than that.”
