In a stunning move, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) has threatened violence if President Biden caves on the debt ceiling. Jayapal, who is the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, made the threat in a tweet on Tuesday.
There will be “a huge backlash…in the streets” if the White House agrees to spending cuts.
“If Biden caves on the debt ceiling, we will not stand for it,” Jayapal also tweeted. “We will take to the streets and we will not stop until he is held accountable.”
Donald Trump suggested there would be protests over his indictment in Manhattan by DA Alvin Bragg, and MSNBC, CNN, and others insisted he was calling for violence. When the former president used the phrase “fight like hell,” he was likewise accused of inciting a riot?
But Jayapal won’t face the same criticism since she wears the cloak known as being a member of the Democratic Party. But it’s hard to miss the hypocrisy on display.
Jayapal’s threat sure does seem to show the progressive wing of the Democratic Party is willing to use violence to achieve its political goals. This is a dangerous development, and it should be condemned by all Americans.
The debt ceiling is a limit on the amount of money that the federal government can borrow. If the debt ceiling is not raised, the government will be unable to pay its bills and will default on its debt. This would have a devastating impact on the economy, and it could lead to a recession.
Biden has said that he is willing to raise the debt ceiling, but he is facing opposition from some Republicans. If Biden does not raise the debt ceiling, it is possible that the government will default on its debt. This would be a major economic crisis, and it could lead to violence.
Jayapal knows she won’t be held accountable for her rhetoric, even if things get violent.
