Republican Congressman Byron Donalds of Florida is criticizing the recent funding measure passed by Congress, saying that Republicans got nothing out of it.
Donalds told “Fox News Sunday” host Shannon Bream that many of the issues at the top of the Republican agenda were not addressed in the bill. The Florida Republican also lashed out at House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) for calling the Republicans who voted against the measure “MAGA Republicans.”
“Look, I’m gonna be honest. We did not get anything out of this continued resolution,” Donalds said. “The border is still unsecured in our country. Why is that? That’s because Joe Biden and the Democrats got their way. The Democrat members are very happy with what they got. I think this is a terrible deal for the American people.”
“Cutting this government’s spending down must happen,” Donalds continued. “Inflation is still running rampant. That’s not MAGA Republican, that’s common sense. Having a secure border – that’s not MAGA Republican, that’s common sense.”
Some Democrats, including Jeffries and Virginia Democratic Rep. Don Beyers, delcared the temporary funding measure was a win for their party. Beyers accused McCarthy of “folding,” while Jeffries said, “Extreme MAGA Republicans have lost.”
Donald’s criticism of the funding measure is likely to resonate with some Republican voters, who are frustrated with the party’s inability to achieve its goals. However, it is also important to note that the funding measure was passed with bipartisan support, and that it includes some important investments in areas that are important to both Democrats and Republicans.
It is likely that the funding measure will be a major issue in the upcoming midterm elections. Republicans will likely argue that the bill is a wasteful spending spree, while Democrats will argue that it is necessary to keep the government running and to provide essential services to the American people.
We didn’t get ANYTHING out of yesterday's flawed CR.
Inflation is running rampant & our border is in crisis.
Slashing spending & securing our border should be COMMON SENSE.
We MUST stand together to demand fiscal responsibility & border security in this appropriations process. pic.twitter.com/fbRxq4thaU
