First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, is a self-described fan of the Philadelphia Eagles football team. But she did not receive a reception filled with brotherly love at a recent Sunday night NFL game in which the Eagles battled their rival Dallas Cowboys.
Dr. Biden grew up just across the river from Philly in Hammonton, New Jersey. She was an honorary captain for the Eagle’s Sunday night game. When she attempted to help lead the crowd in a rendition of “Fly Eagles, Fly,” the crowd responded with loud booing and chanting expletives about her husband. Biden clearly knew that famous fight song for the team and sang it with passion in front of the 70,000 people in the stands.
NBC’s Sunday Night Football included a brief clip of her appearance on its national broadcast and then shared that clip on social media with this caption: “.@FLOTUS leads the crowd in #FlyEaglesFly ahead of kickoff.”
But their clip did not include boos and chants from the crowd.
According to some reports, there were not only loud boos, but people shouting, “F*** Joe Biden.”
Others were chanting a more friendly message with the same meaning, “Let’s Go, Brandon.”
NFL veteran Clay Harbor, who was drafted by the Eagles in 2010 and spent three seasons with the team, wrote, “Philly just BOO’d Jill Biden BAD.” But he did include a laughing emoji.
Eagles insider John McMullen tweeted, “FLOTUS Dr. Jill Biden gets booed. Being an ‘Eagles fan’ didn’t save her.”
President Joe Biden is also a lifelong Eagles fan. He once described his fellow Eagles fans as “the most informed and most obnoxious fans in the world.”
So the Bidens seem to have lost on Sunday night, but the Eagles beat the Cowboys and remained the only undefeated team in the NFL.
Not sure if they will be back in Philly any time soon.
