There has been a lot of talk lately about how Gen Z is a generation of Democrats. In fact, a recent poll found that 67% of Gen Zers identify as Democrats or lean Democratic. However, this report is greatly exaggerated.
According to The Hill, Gen Z high school boys are becoming increasingly conservative:
“As with many Reddit posts and viral tweets, the truth was more complicated. But the numbers do say this: Twelfth-grade boys are nearly twice as likely to identify as conservative versus liberal, according to a respected federal survey of American youth.
In annual surveys over the last three years, roughly one-quarter of high school seniors self-identified as conservative or “very conservative” on the Monitoring the Future survey, a scholarly endeavor that dates to the 1970s. Only 13 percent of boys identified as liberal or very liberal in those years.
The figures represent a striking shift in the political views of boys. As recently as the late 2000s, liberal boys occasionally outnumbered conservatives. Back in the Carter era, both boys and girls leaned liberal.”
This means that there is a significant portion of Gen Z that is not Democratic. In fact, the number of Gen Zers who identify as Republicans is actually higher than the number of Gen Zers who identify as Independents.
So, why is the report that Gen Z are all Democrats so exaggerated? There are a few reasons. First, the poll that found that 67% of Gen Zers identify as Democrats was conducted online. This means that the poll was likely skewed towards younger, more liberal Gen Zers.
Second, the poll did not ask Gen Zers about their political ideology. Instead, it asked them about their party identification. This means that the poll could have included Gen Zers who identify as Democrats but who do not hold liberal views.
In reality, Gen Z is a diverse group with a wide range of political views. While there is a significant portion of Gen Zers who are Democrats, there is also a significant portion who are Republicans or Independents. To say that Gen Z are all Democrats is simply not true.
According to a recent study, high school senior boys are trending conservative. Waiting on the corporate media to tell me whether this is the fault of Andrew Tate or GamerGate. pic.twitter.com/nlMpjBJGDr
