The death toll in Israel has skyrocketed in recent weeks, following a series of terror attacks orchestrated by Iran-backed militias. The attacks, which have targeted civilians and security forces alike, have raised concerns about a wider conflict between Israel and Iran.
More than 700 Israelis have been confirmed dead, and at least 2,500 have been injured following the attacks from Hamas, a Palestinian Islamic terrorist organization.
Iran backed Terrorists launched thousands of rockets into Israel early Saturday morning, sending people throughout the land running for bomb shelters.
The terrorists also used drones to drop bombs on Israeli defenses on the border, making them inoperable as terrorists used explosives and bulldozers to smash through Israel’s border wall. More than 1,000 terrorists entered into the country on paragliders, boats, motorcycles, trucks, and by foot as they hunted down innocent civilians door to door to slaughter or kidnap them.
The number of people kidnapped is now at more than 100, a figure that included people from around the world, including the U.S., according to Israel Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer.
Some U.S. officials compared the attacks to the September 11, 2001, terror attacks. They noted that after adjusting for differences in population size between the U.S. and Israel, the attacks were comparable to several 9/11s.
A spokesperson for Hamas told the BBC that it had support from Iran and other groups, although he declined to say who else provided support.
Another Iranian-backed terrorist organization, Lebanon-based Hezbollah, also launched attacks against Israel over the weekend.
People flocked to the streets in Iran to celebrate the deadly attacks, shooting off fireworks, waving flags, and cheering, according to numerous images posted online.
Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani said, “What took place today is in line with the continuation of victories for the anti-Zionist resistance in different fields, including Syria, Lebanon and occupied lands.”
Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei posted on social media: “God willing, the cancer of the usurper Zionist regime will be eradicated at the hands of the Palestinian people and the Resistance forces throughout the region.”
