Kamala Harris took to the stage on Tuesday night, delivering what was supposed to be her “closing argument” in the race, but it turned into little more than another extended Trump-bashing session.
Harris’s speech at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C., opened with the White House looming behind her—a background more dramatic than the content itself. And as a bit of comic timing, sirens wailed in the distance just as she started lecturing about the “stakes in this election.”

True to form, Harris mentioned Trump more than a dozen times in her thirty-minute speech. She warned that “this election is a choice about whether we have a country rooted in freedom… or ruled by chaos and division.” Then, barely a breath later, she dove headfirst into her favorite talking point: January 6th, suggesting that Trump, if reelected, is some kind of looming tyrant bent on revenge. The irony was thick, given that Biden and Harris’s own DOJ has spent the last few years going after everyone from Trump himself to peaceful pro-life protestors and concerned parents at school board meetings.
And that wasn’t the only finger-pointing. Harris painted Trump as a man “obsessed with revenge” and “out for unchecked power”—an interesting claim from someone who’s had four years as VP to actually make “life better,” yet still seems more focused on demonizing her opponent. After all this grandstanding, she declared, “It is time to stop pointing fingers,” only to then double down on her grievances against Trump and his supporters.

The real kicker came when she started talking about division, urging that “it doesn’t have to be this way,” and that America needs to “turn the page” on conflict and “lock arms” in unity. This, from the same candidate whose running mate, Governor Tim Walz, and her boss, President Biden, have thrown around terms like “Nazis” and “garbage” to describe Trump supporters. Nothing says “unity” quite like demonizing half the country, right?
And, of course, Harris trotted out the predictable line about abortion, claiming that Trump and his team would somehow ban it nationwide and restrict IVF—never mind that these claims are baseless and have been debunked multiple times. She added a dramatic plug for “Project 2025,” the latest Democratic bogeyman, which she urged her followers to “Google” as if it’s proof of some vast conspiracy. What she didn’t mention? The actual policy results Americans are feeling after nearly four years of Biden-Harris leadership: record inflation, strained supply chains, and a border crisis spiraling out of control.
Meanwhile, just before Harris took the stage, RNC Chairman Michael Whatley cut to the chase, saying Harris’s “new way forward” was just a rehash of the same failed policies we’ve seen. The Trump team, meanwhile, issued a scathing statement, pointing out that Harris failed to mention any real plan to fix the damage done by her administration.

As the polls continue to lean toward Trump in the home stretch, it seems voters are tuning out the endless finger-pointing and focusing instead on real solutions.
