First Lady Melania Trump announced Friday that she secured a temporary ceasefire in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, Ukraine. Humanitarian aid and civilian evacuations will be enabled by the Russia-Ukraine agreement starting October 29. This move targets a specific front line where elderly residents face immediate danger and starvation.
The White House confirmed the break in fighting is limited to the Oleshky region in southern Ukraine. Both nations agreed to halt military operations so aid trucks can enter the city safely. Breitbart News heard from Marc Beckman, a senior adviser to the First Lady, that this deal marks a meaningful step toward lasting peace in the war-torn region.
Melania Trump described the situation in a statement as dire for the remaining population. Given the scarce power supply, she noted that Oleshky functions as a frontline combat zone teetering on catastrophe. The city once held about 24,000 people, but fewer than 2,000 remain trapped by mined roads.
Reporter: “Will the first lady be a part of the trilateral peace talks?”
President Trump: “No, but it’s not the worst idea I’ve ever heard. What she wants to do is save children. And that’s her focus. And both sides are cooperating with her. So, doing a very good job.
Reporter: “How did that all come about, Mr. President?”
President Trump: “Her initiative. And they contacted both sides and both sides wanted to do it.”
Melania Trump has DONE a fantastic job getting a localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the city of Oleshky.

According to the Daily Wire, these remaining residents are primarily elderly people who urgently need medical care and food. The First Lady stated it was abundantly clear that without her intervention, bringing aid into the city would be impossible. She emphasized that her office worked directly with leadership from both countries to hammer out these terms.
On October 29, 2026, medical personnel, clean water, food, and medicine will start arriving in the city as humanitarian aid. Civilian representatives will then assess needs and coordinate transportation for those who want to leave the area. This effort builds on her previous work reuniting more than 30 Ukrainian children with their families.
During a Friday morning departure from the White House, President Donald Trump commented on his wife’s diplomatic achievement. Regarding future Russia-Ukraine peace talks involving his wife, he remarked it was “not the worst idea I’ve ever heard.” Trump added that her focus is to save children and that both sides are cooperating with her.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the Russian military is coordinating the timing of the ceasefire in the Oleshky area. In accordance with the agreement, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced its intent to carry out the ceasefire directives. An impartial American media association has been dispatched to document the teams on the ground throughout the process.
Questions concerning the specific details of the First Lady’s announcement were not immediately answered by White House officials. The agreement remains localized to the city of Oleshky, where residents face ongoing fighting and dangerous conditions caused by the war. No formal population count has been conducted since 2022, but estimates suggest about 50 children remain in the city.
