Ladies and gentlemen, let’s dive into yet another episode of MSNBC’s melodrama. This time, it’s Nicolle Wallace who became visibly upset over “right-wing domestic violent extremism” while discussing President Biden’s interview following the assassination attempt on former President Trump.
In the interview, Biden had to backpedal after admitting it was a mistake to talk about putting Trump “in a bullseye” just days before the attempt. Biden told NBC’s Lester Holt, “It was a mistake to use the word… I meant focus on him: Focus on what he’s doing, focus on his policies, focus on the number of lies he told at the debate.” Nice save, Joe.
During a roundtable at the Republican National Convention, Wallace, an ex-Republican turned Biden cheerleader who despises Trump, was fuming. She ranted, “There was one way to answer that question, and it was, ‘Lester, should I use the word bullseye or crosshair? No, but the FBI director that Donald Trump selected, his name is Christopher Wray, and he testified under oath before Congress that the greatest threat to this country is no longer foreign terrorism. It’s domestic violent extremism.'”
Wallace, growing angrier, snapped, “Inside that threat, the biggest bucket by far is right-wing domestic violent extremism, so go talk to them,” while practically pointing her finger through the screen.
Left-wing New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay, of course, chimed in to tell Wallace she was right. It’s not like MSNBC is known for lively debate; it’s more of a left-wing echo chamber where “reporters and friends” nod along in agreement.
Wallace wasn’t alone in her frustration. MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough had his own gripes with Holt’s interview. On “Morning Joe,” Scarborough accused Holt of “phony moral relativism” for not contextualizing Trump’s controversial rhetoric.
In the wake of all this, President Biden has been calling for people to “lower the temperature” in politics while still taking jabs at Trump’s remarks. Speaking to the nation, Biden urged Americans to “remember, while we may disagree, we are not enemies.”
However, in his Monday interview with Holt, Biden couldn’t resist bringing up Trump’s past statements, insisting that Trump’s rhetoric could “incite somebody.” Biden asked, “When a president says things like he says, do you just not say anything because it may incite somebody?”
Biden defended himself, claiming, “I have not engaged in that rhetoric.” He then pointed the finger at Trump for talking about a “bloodbath” if he loses and for suggesting he’d pardon those involved in the Capitol riot.
