In the post Trump/woke era of corporations there is one company who may be shedding more viewers then CNN…the National Basketball Association.
As the league moves into the playoffs season ratings are being tallied and they are abysmal. Ratings fell 45 percent since the 2011-2012 season on ABC, TNT’s ratings were down 40 percent, and ESPN’s rating fell off 20 percent.
The NBA is in a ratings free fall the last two NBA finals have seen a 51% drop off and last year the last game during the finals saw a 70 percent drop year over year.
Currently, viewership for the NBA is somewhere around 2.83 million and they are being beaten by primetime network drama shows. Traditionally, any sports broadcast (especially playoffs) beats a TV series but, not anymore.
The collapse is predictable, the NBA after they entered into the political arena and bowed to China.

In September, a Harris poll found that 39 percent of respondents who identified as sports fans felt that the NBA had become too political, and 19 percent said that they had turned off pro basketball because of the NBA’s deep links to China.
In 2020, the NBA’s coronavirus bubble had the opportunity to crush the ratings, other than the UFC they were the only sports league broadcasting however, the organization was heavy handed with BLM. League Commissioner Adam Silver realized that they may have gone overboard but was optimistic about the 2021 season.
“My sense is there’ll be somewhat a return to normalcy, that those messages will largely be left to be delivered off the floor. And, I understand those people who are saying, ‘I’m on your side, but I want to watch a basketball game,’” Silver said last October.
The ratings tell a different story, viewers were definitely turned off by the NBA especially after Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban suspended the playing of the National Anthem before games. Cuban was threatened by the league and did resume the playing of the anthem.
Corporations like Delta, Coca-Cola, the NFL, and Major League Baseball better pay attention to what’s happening to the NBA. Be wary if you jump into the political ocean because it might cost you everything.
