California Governor Gavin Newsom, who tried to force vaccinations among children, is trying to pull a stunt in Florida that is akin to lighting a pile of cash on fire.
About a month ago Newsom annouced that he was joining former President Trump’s social media network, Truth Social, promising to call out “Republican lies.” Now, he’s buying ad blocks in Florida.
The San Francisco Gate reported that Newsom’s re-election campaign purchased around $105,000 worth of cable ads in Florida. The ads will start running on July 4th.
“The Governor who said he has ‘subzero interest’ in running for President will reportedly air ads in a state …*checks notes* …2,700 miles away from his own,” tweeted Ashley Zavala, a TV reporter who covers the California Capitol for KRON4 News.
“Stay tuned,” Nathan Click, a spokesperson for Newsom’s re-election campaign said when he was asked about the ads.
Newsom has tried to go toe-to-toe with DeSantis for two years and each time ends up with egg on his face.
I’m from California. Here are the facts: CA had a mask mandate since June 2020 but 70,000+ cases a DAY during the winter surge. CA lockdowns have destroyed small businesses, decimated the middle class & kept kids out of school for going on 2 years.
Grateful to be in Florida now. https://t.co/4K3DJ1lZTX

Most of the ads are reported to appear on Fox News.

A spokesman for DeSantis’s campaign said that Newsom “might as well light a pile of cash on fire.”
The spokesman added: “Pass the popcorn for his desperate attempt to win back the California refugees who fled the hellhole he created in his state to come to Florida.”
With the two governors taking pot shots at each other one has to wonder if the ad buy is just another way for Newsom to throw a jab at DeSantis.
