Former president Obama has screamed to make every vote count in hopes of toppling President Trump’s re-election hopes. But, here’s the dirty little secret, Obama did the same thing to win his Senate race.
A CNN 2008 article explains how “Obama effectively used election rules to eliminate his Democratic competition.”
CNN reported:
When it came time to run for office, he[Obama] employed Chicago rules to invalidate the voting petition signatures of three of his challengers.
The move denied each of them, including incumbent Alice Palmer, a longtime Chicago activist, a place on the ballot. It cleared the way for Obama to run unopposed on the Democratic ticket in a heavily Democrat district.
“That was Chicago politics,” said John Kass, a veteran Chicago Tribune columnist. “Knock out your opposition, challenge their petitions, destroy your enemy, right? It is how Barack Obama destroyed his enemies back in 1996 that conflicts with his message today. He may have gotten his start registering thousands of voters. But in that first race, he made sure voters had just one choice.”
There you have it, folks, Obama used election rules and signature legislation to get rid of any opposition so he could run unopposed. This is the same man who is attacking the Trump campaign for wanting states to verify signatures on mail-in ballots.
During a recent interview the President’s attorney Rudy Giuliani said they are trying to get their case before the Supreme Court:
“Our theory of the case to get to the Supreme Court now in four places — and it’s soon going to be in two others, and there’ll be an overall lawsuit — is basically misconduct of the election by state officials in at least five or six different states in which the misconduct of the election involved depravation of constitutional rights for the president. For example, in one part of the state, you could fix a ballot, Democrat part. Other part of the state, you couldn’t fix a ballot. One part of the state, the ballots were examined. The other part of the state, they didn’t care if the ballots were examined. In Pennsylvania, there are 680,000 unexamined ballots that virtually were put in secretly by Democrats alone. That’s outrageous. That is misconduct of the election.”
“Elections are supposed to be conducted under the auspices of the laws passed by the legislature, and, in fact, they made a mockery of it in Pennsylvania,” Giuliani continued. “The only place maybe worse is Michigan, and particularly the city of Detroit. The city of Detroit probably had more voters than it had citizens. I’m exaggerating a bit, but all you have to do is look at statistical data, and you can see that the fraud was rampant and out of control.”
So, it’s ok for Obama to use election laws to muscle out any competition but, President Trump can’t in an effort to win re-election.
