There’s a newly released video clip from January 6, 2021, where Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, threatens to assault then-President Donald Trump.
The video was filmed by Pelosi’s filmmaker daughter, Alexandra Pelosi, and it was released on Thursday during the January 6 House committee hearings. An extended version of the clip was also shown on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360.”
When Pelosi commented, Trump was holding a “Stop the Steal” rally at the Ellipse, approximately two miles from the Capitol.
The video clip begins with Terri McCullough, Pelosi’s chief of staff, explaining to the House Speaker that the Secret Service has convinced Trump not to join his supporters at Capitol Hill due to safety concerns.
Pelosi responded, “I hope he comes; I’m going to punch him out. I’ve been waiting for this, for trespassing on the Capitol grounds. I’m going to punch him out. And I’m going to jail, and I’m going to be happy.”
“It’s very dangerous, what he’s doing,” Pelosi added. “Tell him if he comes here, we’re going to the White House.”
Trump ultimately was kept from marching with the protestors at the Capitol.
While the House committee was having its hearing on Thursday, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) said during his opening statements, “What Donald Trump proceeded to do after the 2020 election is something no president has done before in our country.”
Thompson also called Trump’s words about the stolen election to be a “staggering betrayal of his oath” and accused him of planning “an attack on a pillar of our democracy.”
“It’s still hard to believe,” said Thompson. “But the facts and testimony are clear, consistent, and undisputed.”
The committee unanimously voted to subpoena Trump to testify under oath.
The former president gave a reaction to the vote on social media: “Why didn’t the Unselect Committee ask me to testify months ago? Why did they wait until the very end, the final moments of their last meeting? Because the Committee is a total ‘BUST’ that has only served to further divide our Country which, by the way, is doing very badly.”
