Democrats in Minnestoa are running for cover after police released a video tape of state Rep. John Thompson.
Thompson has found himself caught up in the middle of several controversies involving a traffic stop surrounding his drivers license.
The embattle lawmaker was elected last year and was recently pulled over by the St. Paul Police Department and claimed that he was being racially profiled by the officer.
“I’m too old to run from the police, man,” Thompson said to the officer in the video of the July 4 stop. “You profiled me because you looked me dead in the face and I got a ticket for driving while Black. You pulled me over because you saw a Black face in this car, brother. There’s no way in hell I’m taking off with you behind me. … You looked in this car and busted a U-turn and got behind my car, and that’s the reason.”
He was pulled over for not having a front license plate. During the interaction Thompson (a Minnesota State Representative) gave the police officer a Wisconsin drivers license that went to an address in Wisconsin.
Elected legislators in the state of Minnesota are required to live in the state. An investigation has been prompted to try and figure out where Thompson’s Wisconsin drivers license came from and how he got it.
According to reports, Thomspon’s drivers license was suspended in Minnesota for failing to pay child support. To boot, more allegations have come forward that the Democrat lawmaker allegedly hit and chocked one of his girlfriends.
From Fox News:
Thompson was reportedly arrested in 2003 for allegedly hitting his then-girlfriend in a grocery store parking lot in front of her 5-year-old daughter. He eventually pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to FOX 9.
A year later the same girlfriend reportedly called police, accusing him of hitting her, throwing her onto a kitchen table and choking her in front of her three children in her apartment.
Democrats in the state are in a panic and are demanding Thompson resign immediately.
“The alleged acts of violence against multiple women outlined in these reports are serious and deeply disturbing,” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said in a statement, according to the Star Tribune of Minneapolis. “Minnesotans deserve representatives of the highest moral character, who uphold our shared values. Rep. Thompson can no longer effectively be that leader and he should immediately resign.”

Thompson has recently said that the officer involved in the traffic stop did not do anything wrong and through his attorney announced that he has no intention of resigning.
The lieutenant Governor, majority leader, and Speaker of the House – all Democrats – are also demanding that Thompson step down.
Democrats are running for cover, they supported Thompson to help them push progressive policies and now that support is blowing up in their face.
