Rep. Adam Schiff is scrambling to grab ahold of power once again. The Democratic representative from California announced this week that he will be running for the U.S. Senate.
“Our democracy is at great risk. Because GOP leaders care more about power than anything else. And because our economy isn’t working for millions of hard working Americans. We’re in the fight of our lives—a fight I’m ready to lead as California’s next U.S. Senator,” Schiff said in a tweet.
This announcement came on the heels of Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy recently removing both Schiff and Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell from the House Intelligence Committee. Soon the House will also vote on the removal of Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee.
So in the wake of losing that power, Schiff has determined to seek Democratic California Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s seat in the senate when she finishes her six-year term in 2024.
Feinstein is 89 years old and reportedly suffers from extensive memory loss. She has filed to run for reelection, but she has not declared a campaign for a sixth full term.
Democratic California Rep. Katie Porter has already announced that she will run for Feinstein’s seat. She began her campaign by taking a shot at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. She said that the U.S. Senate is a place where democracy “gets rigged.”
“Change can be electrifying and exhilarating. But change can also be disruptive. The constant assault on our democracy, and the dangerous imbalance in our economy. The threat from so-called leaders, like Mitch McConnell, has made the U.S. Senate a place where rights get revoked, special interests get rewarded, and our democracy gets rigged,” Porter said in a Twitter video.
So Schiff will not be the only California Democrat looking to move from the House to the Senate. Let’s hope that the voters have had enough of Schiff’s shenanigans.
