Since their resounding election loss, Democrats have made a series of baffling political choices. Their latest spectacle — defending an alleged MS-13 gang member — shows just how far removed from reality they have become. It is a political misstep so staggering that one must wonder: did they think the American people would cheer?
Enter Florida Democrat Rep. Frederica Wilson, perhaps better known for her flamboyant hats than any significant legislative achievements. Wilson’s recent visit to the ICE Krome Detention Center in Miami culminated in a roadside press conference that, both in setting and substance, veered wildly into the absurd. Standing among roadside bushes as cars sped past, Wilson appeared literally and figuratively lost in the weeds.
Yet it was her words, not her surroundings, that raised the greatest alarm. After criticizing immigration detention policies, Wilson stated that Democrats only needed “five” more seats to seize control of the House — and promised they would “use every power available” once in charge. But then, in a deeply troubling escalation, she urged citizens to call Congress and “threaten” representatives, framing it as a duty to spark an “uprising” to achieve her goals.

Such rhetoric is dangerously reminiscent of earlier calls for public harassment, most infamously made by Rep. Maxine Waters during the Trump administration. Wilson’s language — invoking threats and uprisings — inches alarmingly close to the same kind of incitement Democrats once spent years condemning.
Wilson’s outrage is misplaced. The American people made their voices heard in November, clearly rejecting open-border policies and affirming their support for deportations of illegal aliens. It is Wilson, not ICE or the voters, who stands against the will of the people.
Further compounding her mischaracterizations, Wilson took to X (formerly Twitter) to accuse ICE of targeting “hardworking immigrants” and called for an end to what she described as a “reign of terror” against immigrant communities. Her comments blur the vital distinction between legal immigrants — who arrive in accordance with American laws — and illegal aliens, whose very presence defies them.
The current debate is not about denying due process. Rather, it is about upholding the very processes and laws that ensure the sovereignty and safety of the nation. Yet, Democrats like Wilson seem more interested in stoking chaos than restoring order.
In their desperation to cling to relevance, Democrats have not only lost the political argument — they are losing the confidence of the very people they claim to represent.
