Dem State Lawmakers One Step From Enacting Vax Tax

Rhode Island state senator Rep. Samuel Bell has proposed levying heavy fines on the unvaccinated.

If passed the law would force unvaccinated persons 16 and up to pay a civil fee of $50 a month and double state income tax. The bill also sets up a massive bureaucracy to investigate parents who opt out of vaccinating their children.

Six other state Senators put their names on the bill but public outrage has caused two of them to pull their names.

From WJAR NBC 10:

Violating the proposed vaccine mandate would come with a price. Violators would face “a civil penalty of $50 and shall owe twice the amount of personal income taxes.”

Employers would be responsible for enforcement, requiring workers to provide proof or face a $5,000 fine for each unvaccinated worker.

Some of the senators who introduced the bill on March 1 did not want to talk about it anymore. The issue blew up on Tara Granahan’s WPRO radio show Tuesday morning.

NBC 10 reported that some of the Democrats who sponsored the bill won’t answer the phone and the author of the bill refused to give an interview.

The state is one step away from enacting the law after it was referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee.

Bell posted a report from the Boston Globe and argued that residents would support the bill.

“With @DanMcGowan reporting that Rhode Islanders still strongly support a universal vaccine mandate, despite the McKee Administration pushing hard for the surrender policy, it’s time for us to pass my mandate bill,” Bell tweeted. “Cases are rising again. Surrender isn’t working.”

What Bell isn’t admitting is that two of his cosponsors have jumped ship and since the bill went to committee nobody wants to touch it with a 10-foot pole.
