Residents Of NC Express Frustration

Well, here we go again. Just days after announcing a whopping $8 billion in aid for Ukraine, Vice President Kamala Harris has swooped in with a much less impressive offer for Americans struggling in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Harris proudly touted that the federal government would be providing—wait for it—$750 to hurricane victims to cover “immediate needs” like food and baby formula.

$750? Really? That’s just $50 more than what was handed out to victims of the Maui wildfires last year, many of whom lost everything. And let’s be clear: this hurricane has left hundreds dead, hundreds more missing, and entire towns destroyed. Meanwhile, just last week, Harris and President Biden were making speeches with Ukrainian President Zelensky at the White House, committing billions more to a war that, frankly, many Americans are starting to wonder why we’re still funding.

As Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) bluntly pointed out, it seems like under Biden and Harris, American citizens come dead last. In fact, he summed it up pretty perfectly on X: “$750 for Hurricane Helene victims. $700 for Maui fire victims. $175 BILLION to Ukraine. FREE flights, health care, housing, and food for illegal aliens.” He’s not wrong. At a time when Americans need real help, the federal government is out there playing international Santa Claus while barely tossing crumbs to people here at home.

Residents in North Carolina—one of the states hit hardest by Hurricane Helene—are fed up. Entire communities have been wiped out. Asheville, Chimney Rock, Swannanoa, and Biltmore Village are underwater or worse. People have lost their homes, their loved ones, and their basic infrastructure like power and clean water. But when the people of North Carolina turned to the federal government, what did they get? A resounding nothing. Not a single FEMA worker in sight. Instead, the people of this state have had to rely on private citizens and volunteers flying in supplies and offering aid. If you’re waiting for FEMA, good luck.

The contrast couldn’t be starker. As one resident put it, “America is responding. The government is telling us there’s no way to get in, but America is not listening. And God bless America.” Private citizens are stepping up in ways that our government simply isn’t. The Biden administration, on the other hand, is busy flying around the world, making sure everyone else is taken care of while they leave Americans to fend for themselves.

Meanwhile, Harris has been fundraising in San Francisco, and Biden? Well, he’s been holed up at his beach house. Yep, as North Carolina residents wonder where their next meal is coming from and are desperately searching for their missing family members, our leaders are living their best lives—far away from the disaster zone. One young man, who had been a supporter of Kamala Harris, posted an emotional video on TikTok, asking a question that’s been on everyone’s mind: “Where is our government? Where is the f***ing president?”

Great question. Too bad the answer seems to be anywhere but here.

It’s hard to ignore the optics. You can’t help but feel like the priorities of this administration are completely backward. They’re quick to send billions overseas, eager to fund every cause but the ones that affect Americans directly. And when it comes to helping the folks right here at home? Well, apparently $750 should do the trick.

If this is how the Biden-Harris administration “responds” to national crises, it’s no wonder Americans are starting to lose faith.
