Schumer’s Stunt Just Lost Him A Key GOP Swing Vote

As this trial continues despite the fake news coming from the left-wing media the Democrats and Senator Chuck Schumer may have overplayed their hand.

Initially, Republican Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) was non-committal about voting on new witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial however, it appears that after all the shenanigans pulled by House Democrats and Schumer he’s seen enough.

“I do not believe we need to hear from an 18th witness,” the Colorado Republican told Colorado Politics in a statement. “I have approached every aspect of this grave constitutional duty with the respect and attention required by law, and have reached this decision after carefully weighing the House managers and defense arguments and closely reviewing the evidence from the House, which included well over 100 hours of testimony from 17 witnesses.”

This is a very brave move for Garner who is up for re-election this year and he is going to be in a real battle to get re-elected. There were a lot of rumors that he would vote for witnesses to save face but he’s decided to stand firm.

Plus we are learning a lot more about how McConnell is whipping the vote for Friday and it appears that he may be very close to getting the votes.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting:

In a “secret” meeting held late Tuesday, he and other Republicans Senators made the argument that any witness testimony — even arguably relevant witness testimony — would do little to change the outcome of the trial and would simply provide Democrats with more ammunition for campaign commercials, partisan attacks, and further House inquiries. No Democrat is likely to be waved away from convicting Trump by Bolton or Mulvaney; they simply want witness testimony to injure the president further. “Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado, Martha McSally of Arizona and Thom Tillis of North Carolina, who face competitive races in the fall, addressed their colleagues in the meeting, people familiar with the matter said. Mr. Gardner said a longer trial would lead to more Democratic attacks, according to a spokesman, and Mr. Tillis called impeachment a sham. Ms. McSally’s office said she doesn’t comment on what happens in private meetings.”

Whatever is going on Senator McConnell is right the longer this goes on the more Democrats can play political games. No matter if Bolton testifies or not it’s not going to change the outcome, President Trump will be acquitted.
