Here we go again. The Democrats are throwing another tantrum over a perfectly reasonable government funding bill, and Chuck Schumer is leading the charge with his usual blend of performative outrage and bad faith arguments. Republicans in the House managed to pass a continuing resolution to keep the government running, but instead of working with the majority party to ensure stability, Senate Democrats are threatening to shut everything down unless they get their way. Because nothing says “bipartisanship” like refusing to negotiate unless you’re in total control.
Schumer, with his signature blend of condescension and faux concern, took to the Senate floor to declare that the bill was simply too “partisan” for Democrats to support. His complaint? That Republicans didn’t let Democrats draft the bill. That’s right—Democrats aren’t mad about what’s in the bill so much as the fact that they weren’t allowed to hijack the process and cram it full of wasteful spending and liberal pet projects. Never mind that the bill actually keeps the government open—that’s not the point for them. The point is power.
The Democratic Party is apparently so unified in their opposition that they are openly admitting they don’t actually have a good option here. Some, like Senator Raphael Warnock, admitted that both outcomes—a shutdown or passing the bill—are “bad.” Why? Because if the bill passes, they don’t get to play the usual hostage game where they demand higher spending and unrelated policy concessions in exchange for simply funding the government. And if the government shuts down, they know they’ll be the ones responsible for refusing a deal that was right in front of them.
Meanwhile, Schumer and his colleagues are pushing for a short-term one-month bill—basically, another delay tactic so they can keep dragging their feet and hoping for better leverage in the next round of negotiations. Because that’s what this is really about: leverage. Democrats don’t want a six-month funding plan because it takes away their ability to manufacture another crisis in a few weeks. A one-month bill lets them repeat the cycle over and over, using government funding as a bargaining chip for whatever policies they want to force through next.
Of course, some Democrats realize how bad this looks. Senator John Fetterman, for one, has already thrown his support behind the House’s bill, openly admitting that a shutdown would be worse. But even as a few cracks appear in their so-called “unified” caucus, the party’s leadership is still determined to block the bill—because, in their mind, taking a loss to Republicans is a fate worse than a government shutdown.
And let’s talk about the sheer hypocrisy on display here. Senate Democrats are acting like they’re the victims in all this, but let’s not forget who is actually in control of the Senate. Schumer himself holds the gavel. Democrats could have negotiated in good faith weeks ago, but instead, they chose to play brinkmanship with the government’s funding because they assumed they’d be able to pressure Republicans into another massive spending spree. That didn’t happen, so now they’re stomping their feet and insisting the GOP is to blame.

Legacy media will never share this, so let’s make it viral!

Then there’s the bizarre obsession some Democrats have with Elon Musk, of all people. Apparently, some are so worried about his influence that they want “guardrails” in the funding bill to limit his power. What, exactly, that has to do with government spending is anyone’s guess, but it’s pretty revealing that instead of focusing on passing a budget, some senators are more interested in targeting private citizens they don’t like.
On the Republican side, the strategy is simple: pass the funding bill and move on to more important business, like securing the border and fixing Biden’s disastrous economic policies. That’s why the House GOP is pushing forward with their six-month resolution—because unlike the Democrats, they don’t want to keep playing these absurd games every few weeks.

But with Democrats throwing a fit in the Senate and refusing to pass the House’s bill, we’re now racing toward another unnecessary shutdown. And of course, when it happens, they’ll try to pin it all on Republicans. Never mind that it’s Democrats refusing to pass the bill that keeps the government open. Never mind that the House already did its job. In their world, the blame always falls on the GOP—because that’s how their media allies will spin it.
Democrats have railed against government shutdowns.
But now they’re supporting one.⁰

The reality is this: Republicans are doing exactly what they were elected to do—governing responsibly, pushing for fiscal discipline, and keeping the government running. Democrats, on the other hand, are proving once again that they’d rather burn the whole thing down than let Republicans have a single legislative victory. And if a government shutdown is what it takes for them to feel like they’re still in control, well, that tells you everything you need to know.
