Senator Tim Scott Makes Big Announcement

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has joined the growing list of those pledging their support to former President Donald Trump, who remains the early front-runner in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. On Tuesday, Mace announced she’ll back Trump over fellow South Carolina native and former governor Nikki Haley – the last conservative remaining to challenge the president in what is shaping up to be a hotly fought primary.

“Until now, I’ve stayed out of it, but the time has come to unite behind our nominee,” Mace said of Trump. The endorsement from Mace follows that of Sen.Tim Scott (R-SC) making him the last major Republican office seeker whose loyalty has not yet been pledged to the man who “still remains at the pinnacle of Republican Party politics”, as a recent poll by the New Hampshire Republican Party illustrates.

Republicans remain confident that Trump is the best to take on the challenges facing America at present. The former president’s supporters point to Democrats’ latest maneuvers as proof that he is needed more now than ever before. Sen. Scott made this exact point when he endorsed Trump on Friday, urging conservative Republicans in every city, county and state in America to put their votes behind Trump.

The divide in the Republican Party has been a constant source of tension, starting from the beginning days of Trump’s first term. Republicans, mostly in office gave a tepid welcome to the reality television host-turned-politician in the early days of his campaign for the White House. However, as his political fortune rose, being branded as a candidate on the rise by the media, so did the tide of support for the brash figure who would go on to win the 2016 general election.

Sen. Scott on Friday delivered a stinging rebuke of those detractors, arguing that it will be Trump that secures the further evolution of Republican politics, which is needed to ensure the party remains on the right side of history.

“We need a president who will close our southern border today, we need Donald Trump. We need a president who will unite our country. We need Donald Trump. We need a president who will protect your Social Security and my mama’s Social Security. We need Donald Trump, who will stop the crime and recklessness in the streets. We need a president who will restore law and order. We need a president who will lower taxes and not raise our taxes,” Scott said in a recent campaign speech.

Even Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), whose campaign for the 2024 nomination has temporarily been suspended said on Sunday he will back Trump. He too was a GOP office-seeker before Trump’s term, unleashing a broadside attack on Haley’s candidacy. “It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican Party voters still want to give Donald Trump another chance. They watched his presidency get stymied by relentless resistance, and they see Democrats using lawfare this day to attack him,” DeSantis said of Trump’s return to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”
