Andrew Weissmann, who worked as the senior prosecutor for the Mueller Investigation demands Joe Biden’s incoming attorney general investigate and prosecute President Trump.
“Mr. Trump’s criminal exposure is clear,” Weissmann claimed, adding that they “amassed ample evidence to support a charge that Mr. Trump obstructed justice,” during the Mueller Investigation.
Weissman also called for the incoming attorney general to ignore constitutional protections. The President is given the power to pardon a person under Article II, sec. 2 of the Constitution. The President is given the “power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.”
In the piece, Weissman wrote for the New York Times resigned to the fact that Trump may “pardon not just his family and friends before leaving office but also himself in order to avoid federal criminal liability,” but argued, “If Mr. Trump bestows such pardons, states like New York should take up the mantle to see that the rule of law is upheld. And pardons would not preclude the new attorney general challenging a self-pardon or the state calling the pardoned friends and family before the grand jury to advance its investigation of Mr. Trump after he leaves office.”
The Mueller investigation found no evidence of Russian collusion, last year Robert Mueller said that President Trump could face obstruction of justice charges after he leaves the White House.
Weissmann has always been critical of Mueller claiming they could have taken down the President.
“Had we given it our all — had we used all available tools to uncover the truth, undeterred by the onslaught of the president’s unique powers to undermine our efforts?” he wrote in The Atlantic. “I know the hard answer to that simple question: We could have done more.”
In 2020, we learned that the entire Russia conspiracy theory was dreamed up by Hillary Clinton. So it is unclear what tools Weissmann would have to “uncover the truth.” The dossier, what happened to General Flynn, was all bogus.
