Slotkin Pushes Back On Mandate

Oh, look at that—Rep. Elissa Slotkin is suddenly taking a stand against electric vehicle (EV) mandates in her new Senate campaign ad. Yes, this is the same Elissa Slotkin who recently voted against a bill that aimed to block those very same mandates. But now, as she eyes a swing state Senate seat in Michigan, she’s singing a different tune. Her new ad practically screams “no electric car mandates,” while Slotkin herself declares, “No one should tell us what to buy, and no one is gonna mandate anything.” It’s almost like she’s hoping voters will forget what she did just a few weeks ago on the House floor.

Slotkin even tries to play up her Michigan roots, revealing that she lives on a dirt road, far from any charging stations, and doesn’t own an electric car herself. “What you drive is your call, no one else’s,” she says. That’s a great soundbite, but it conveniently ignores her record of voting to let the Biden administration push its EV agenda onto the American people.

Let’s not forget the bigger picture here. Back in March, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) set new emissions standards under the Clean Air Act that would require up to two-thirds of new cars sold to be electric by 2032. Michigan Rep. John James led a bipartisan effort to block this rule through the Congressional Review Act. And what did Slotkin do? She voted against it, aligning herself with the same federal overreach she’s now pretending to oppose in her campaign ad.

Her Republican opponent, Rep. Mike Rogers, didn’t waste any time pointing out the contradiction. His campaign’s response was as sharp as you’d expect: “Slotkin voted three times, including last month, to let the EPA and liberal states ban gas cars that are made in Michigan… Just like an EV, no one is buying her lies.” And honestly, can you blame him for calling it out? Slotkin’s voting record is right there in black and white. She may be trying to distance herself from the Biden administration’s EV push now, but her votes say otherwise.

And this isn’t just about EV mandates. Slotkin’s flip-flop is part of a pattern. The National Republican Senatorial Committee’s spokeswoman, Maggie Abboud, didn’t mince words either, labeling Slotkin as a “pathological liar” and calling out her history of misleading Michigan voters about everything from her residence to her supposed business credentials. Ouch. But if you’ve followed Slotkin’s political career, this sudden shift in messaging is hardly surprising. It’s the classic move of a politician who realizes that her actions in D.C. don’t exactly play well back home, especially when jobs in the auto industry are on the line.

It’s a little ironic, isn’t it? Michigan, the birthplace of the American auto industry, is now facing the prospect of a Senate candidate who seems more interested in following the latest political winds than in standing up for the state’s gas-powered car legacy. Slotkin’s trying to thread the needle between appeasing the eco-friendly wing of her party and pretending to stand up for Michigan’s blue-collar workers. But the voters are paying attention, and her new ad might just remind them that her actions don’t match her words.

Fox News Digital reached out to Slotkin’s campaign for comment, but apparently, they didn’t have much to say before press time. Maybe they’re still trying to figure out how to explain away the fact that she’s now campaigning against the very thing she recently voted to support. Either way, it’s going to be an uphill climb to convince voters that she’s suddenly had a change of heart.
