Texas Governor Greg Abbott is sounding like a GOP presidential candidate. He announced this week that he has created a new position in his state to fight President Joe Biden’s illegal immigration crisis at the U.S. southern border.
This move comes on the heels of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) having 251,487 encounters with illegal aliens last month. It was the highest number ever recorded in U.S. history.
Based on the last three months, if the numbers continue, it will put the United States on track for nearly 3 million illegal alien encounters at the southern border in a year.
“For nearly two years, the State of Texas has taken unprecedented, historic action under Operation Lone Star in response to the Biden Administration’s refusal to secure the border. To continue doing what no other state in the history of our country has done to secure the border, I hired Mike Banks as the State of Texas’ first-ever Border Czar,” Abbott said.
Abbott went on to describe Banks as an award-winning Border Patrol Agent who had decades of federal law enforcement and border security experience. Abbott believes he is the perfect person to oversee the fight against Biden’s surge in illegal immigration as well as the incoming lethal drugs and deadly weapons.
The Texas governor does not have any doubt that the Bank’s strong record and leadership skills will provide Texas and America the kind of border security they deserve “from a proper Border Czar.”
Banks said that he has spent the last 23 years protecting the nation’s border and that he is passionate about it.
The New York Post said that when he was asked about his role he said, “For me, the #1 priority is to make the State of Texas the least desirable place for illegal immigration to cross.”
