Fox News is in a contentious defamation lawsuit against Dominion Voting Systems and there was just a last-minute surprising twist that happened on Sunday night.
The network is being sued by Dominion after several shows on the conservative network aired segments that led with the idea that Dominion’s voting machines had been used to rig the 2020 election. These claims started with people like Sidney Powell and Lin Wood, who both made grandiose promises of coming proof.
That proof never came and even former President Trump’s legal team never took that argument to court. It looks like Fox is going to pay, literally, for this case. There is a new report that indicated the defamation suit is being postponed because Fox is looking to settle.
The trial is now set to begin on Tuesday at 9:00 AM, this will give the two sides an extra day to continue negotiations. But the big question is whether Dominion will even accept a plan to settle the case. It seems as though they want their retribution to be played out in open court.
It will be interesting to watch how Trump and his followers will talk about this case. The former president put out a Truth Social post on Monday declaring that Fox News should double down on the stolen election theme.
There would be no hope for negotiation if they were to do this.
It will also be interesting to see how much of a reign the network might put on their hosts in the future, and how the hosts might deal or not deal with that kind of restraint.
It’s also going to be interesting to see how much time Trump gets on Fox in the future.
If this goes to trial, the amount of money the court could make Fox pay might cripple the network.
It looks like the future of Fox has no recourse but to change.
