Rep. Andy Biggs scored a commanding victory Tuesday night, winning the Republican nomination for Arizona governor in a race that also served as a reminder of one of his most prominent supporters: slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
According to NBC News, Biggs captured more than 73 percent of the vote, easily securing the GOP nomination and advancing to a November showdown with Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs.
Long before Tuesday’s victory, Kirk had made it clear where he stood.
In May 2025, Turning Point Action hosted a “Biggs for Governor” rally in Arizona, where Kirk delivered a lengthy speech urging conservatives to unite behind the congressman. Riding the momentum of President Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory, Kirk argued that Arizona needed a governor who would consistently advance conservative priorities.
“We at Turning Point, so decisively, are all-in for a true conservative,” Kirk told the crowd. “Because it’s time for us to not just make America great again, but make Arizona great again.”
Kirk praised Biggs as a candidate who had earned the trust of grassroots conservatives through his record in Congress, urging supporters to rally behind him throughout the campaign.
Only a few months later, Kirk was killed while speaking at Utah State University. Authorities charged 23-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the shooting.

Despite Kirk’s death, Turning Point Action has continued highlighting its support for Biggs. The organization gives the Arizona congressman a 97.36 lifetime score based on what it describes as adherence to “America First” principles.
The group’s profile of Biggs also points to his legislative record, noting that he received the Taxpayers’ Friend Award for his voting record during the 2018 congressional session and later earned the American Conservative Union’s Conservative Excellence award.
With the primary now behind him, Biggs is turning his attention to the general election.
Politico reported that the longtime congressman has already shifted his campaign toward defeating Hobbs, who is seeking a second term as governor.
Kirk had predicted exactly that scenario during his endorsement speech.
“Once he wins the primary,” Kirk said, “which, with all of your help, he will, then we need to have every energy focused together to defeat what might be America’s most unimpressive and worst governor, Katie Hobbs, and retire her as governor of this state.”
Hobbs enters the race with significant fundraising and is expected to benefit from what many analysts view as one of the nation’s most competitive gubernatorial contests.
Biggs, meanwhile, has built a national reputation as one of President Trump’s closest allies in Congress.
As chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, he became one of the Republican conference’s most outspoken conservatives. He has consistently advocated for stricter border security, opposed many of the Biden administration’s immigration policies, and criticized COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
In 2025, Biggs also introduced legislation aimed at removing U.S. District Judge James Boasberg after the judge blocked portions of the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement agenda. Biggs argued Congress possessed the constitutional authority to remove federal judges under certain circumstances without pursuing impeachment, a position that generated significant debate.
