Troy Aikman Wakes Up the ‘Woke’ with NFL Dresses Comment – Watch

NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman woke up the “woke” with a comment about the NFL wearing dresses.

Aikman had to make a brief response to the online furor over the fact that he said the league should “take the dresses off” when considering quarterback safety rules.

Aikman made the off-the-cuff remark when there was a controversial referee call during the Monday Night Football game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs.

“My hope is the competition committee looks at this during the set of meetings and, you know, we take the dresses off,” said Aikman.

The quarterback-turned-announcer was immediately lambasted by numerous commenters on social media who said that he was being sexist and misogynist. The video of the statement circulated widely on social media so that Aikman had to respond with a statement expressing his regret.

“My comments were dumb, just shouldn’t have made them,” he said on 96.7 the Ticket, according to WOKV-TV.

“Just dumb remarks on my part,” he added.

After his short response, he went on to address the real controversy with the play that involved defensive tackle, Chris Jones. He was penalized for landing on top of quarterback Derek Carr before ripping the football out of his hands.

“I do think we’re, as I said, I think we’re over-officiating it. But these are the rules,” Aikman said. “I mean, as the rule reads and if you watch that in real time, it would be hard to look at that play with Chris Jones in our game and not feel like he landed on the quarterback with his body weight, you know?”

The call by the referee led to a significant benefit for the Raiders who were able to avoid turning over possession of the ball to the Chiefs. They went on to kick a field goal before halftime. Despite the call, the Raiders lost the game to the Chiefs by a score of 29 to 30.
