President Donald Trump reignited political tensions Thursday night with a fiery Truth Social post condemning renewed efforts to impeach him and calling for Republicans to consider expelling Democrats from Congress. In classic Trump fashion, the post was sharp, emotional, and overflowing with political battle cries aimed at his base.
The immediate trigger? Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) formally introduced new articles of impeachment against Trump, with Rep. Al Green (D-TX) enthusiastically backing the move and promising his own resolution. The articles include a range of broad charges — from “obstruction of justice” and “usurpation of appropriations power” to “tyranny” and “bribery.”
Trump, unsurprisingly, dismissed the accusations as meritless, framing the effort as yet another “radical left lunatic” stunt with no foundation in law. He mocked the Democrats for having no clear rationale, stating:
“They didn’t know why they would Impeach me but, ‘We just want to do it.’”
This marks the third wave of impeachment-related action aimed at Trump, who was previously impeached twice during his first term — once over Ukraine-related charges and again following the January 6 Capitol riot. Both impeachments ended in Senate acquittals.
Trump now paints these efforts as systematic political harassment, accusing Democrats of weaponizing the impeachment process to undermine his legitimacy and derail his agenda.
“Why do we allow them to continuously use Impeachment as a weapon against the President of the United States who, by all accounts, is working hard to SAVE OUR COUNTRY?” he wrote.
In a dramatic escalation, Trump floated the idea that Republicans should begin targeting Democrats for expulsion, citing unspecified “REAL crimes” — and reviving old grievances, particularly with Rep. Adam Schiff, whom Trump claims received a “Full Pardon” via “Auto Pen” to avoid expulsion or worse.
“Perhaps we should start playing this game on them,” he declared. “These are total LOWLIFES, who hate our Country, and everything it stands for.”
While no Democrat has been officially pardoned or shielded from expulsion in connection to impeachment proceedings, Trump’s comments appear to reference long-standing Republican anger toward the House January 6 Committee and its key figures.
This post is more than just a social media outburst. It signals Trump’s broader strategy of going on the offensive — portraying himself as the ultimate political victim of an unhinged and vengeful opposition, while simultaneously daring Republicans to abandon institutional norms and go after Democratic lawmakers with the same zeal.
It also sets the stage for further polarization in Congress. If Trump-aligned Republicans take his advice seriously, we could see calls for investigations and potential expulsion proceedings aimed at top Democrats — turning Capitol Hill into a high-stakes game of political brinkmanship.
