Former President Trump had some things to say about the possibility of a 2024 presidential bid from Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla).
Trump was asked about whether it would be a “bad move” for DeSantis to throw his hat into the ring during an interview with David Brody on “The Water Cooler.”
Trump noted that he has thought about this possibility, and he responded by saying, “we’ll handle that the way I handle things.”
Before Trump announced his candidacy, it was common that maybe former President Trump and Gov. DeSantis would team up on the same ticket to take the White House.
But now that seems like a very distant possibility since Trump has made critical remarks about the governor, he called him “Ron DeSanctimonious,” and he described him as “an average Republican Governor with great Public Relations.”
Trump said in the interview that he has heard the governor might want to run against him, and that’s when he said, “So we’ll handle that the way I handle things.”
DeSantis won his reelection in Florida with a landslide victory, but he has not announced any intentions for the White House in 2024.
He has been seen as someone who could successfully mount a presidential bid against Trump.
But Trump has maintained that it was he who got DeSantis elected in Florida, “pure and simple.”
DeSantis has handled Trump’s attacks against him well so far. In fact, he has yet to respond directly to the former president or even address the comments from Trump publicly.
According to a Vanderbilt University poll, 54 percent of registered Republicans see DeSantis as the more favorable candidate. And 41 percent view Trump in the same way.
Trump did reveal that he voted for DeSantis in the 2022 governor’s race.
This story is far from over and the intensity is sure to rise.
