Twitter And Facebook Aren’t Going To Like This, One State Is Making Moves To Give The Power Back To The People

Republican lawmakers in North Dakota has proposed a bill that Facebook and Twitter are not going to like.

Last week six legislators submitted a bill titled, “An Act to Permit Civil Actions Against Social Media Sites For Censoring Speech.” The new bill states that any website with over 1 million users could be “liable in a civil action for damages to the person whose speech is restricted, censored, or suppressed, and to any person who reasonably otherwise would have received the writing, speech, or publication.”

Compensation would be required for users to include, “treble damages for compensatory, consequential, and incidental damages.”

Experts believe that the law would be void after it passed because of section 230 which states providers and users of computer services shall not be held liable for “any action voluntarily taken in good faith to restrict access to or availability of material that the provider or user considers to be obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or otherwise objectionable, whether or not such material is constitutionally protected.”

Of course, that was before they started interfering in elections.

North Dakota Rep. Tom Kading (R) lead sponsor of the bill put the bill together because he is upset over the recent suspension of President Trump on Facebook and Twitter, “It’s just wrong to ban a sitting president.”

The news of the bill comes after Twitter’s stock continues to fall after news broke that Florida is going to divest any funds they have with the social media giant.

Facebook’s stock has also continued to plummet.

Twitter has also started locking random accounts of Trump supporters until after the Inauguration of Joe Biden, Congresswoman Laura Boebert was locked out of her account with no warning, and Students for Trump has also been locked out.
