Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar is now calling for the “dismantling” of the US economy and the political system.
“As long as our economy and political systems prioritize profit without considering who is profiting, who is being shut out, we will perpetuate this inequality,” Omar said. “We cannot stop at criminal justice system. We must begin the work of dismantling the whole system of oppression wherever we find it.”

Omar held an event in Minneapolis with members of the Minnesota People of Color and Indigenous Caucus. Omar said that the purpose of the even was to deal with “racism in policing” after the death of George Floyd.
The murder of George Floyd reawakened calls to address racism in policing and reform our criminal justice system.

Omar has helped lead the movement with local Democrat leaders to defund and dissolve the Minneapolis police department. In June, Minneapolis City Council voted unanimously to get rid of the city’s police department.
Omar publicly said that she supported the vote because she thinks the department cannot be reformed.
“You can’t really reform a department that is rotten to the root,” Omar said at the time. “What you can do is rebuild. And so this is our opportunity, you know, as a city to come together, have the conversation of what public safety looks like, who enforces the most dangerous crimes that take place in our community.”
Omar also attacked the economy on Monday during an appearance on MSNBC…
“When we see people pouring out into the streets, we know that it’s not just the grievance of the police brutality that exists in our communities, but it’s the grievance of the social and economic neglect that many people are feeling.” –@IlhanMN pic.twitter.com/n4SiLgGxKp
