WH Hosts Veterans Day Event

It’s hardly a well-kept secret that there’s no love lost between First Lady Jill Biden—known here as “Frau Doktor Professor”—and Kamala “Queen of Word Salads” Harris. The frigid tension between them could likely keep an iceberg from melting in July.

And the whole scene on Veterans Day, when Jill found herself seated next to Kamala, only confirmed it. The looks exchanged, or rather, not exchanged, could have cooled the entire White House HVAC system. It was a stark reminder that while Democrats may present a united front in public, the reality is something more… complicated.

For Jill, there’s plenty of reason to be irked. She and the Biden family put in serious effort to keep Joe in the running, only to see him nudged aside for Kamala, who many Democrats believe to be the least inspiring candidate in recent memory. Jill’s been a steadfast presence beside Joe as his health and popularity faltered, clearly relishing the trappings of the First Lady role.

She was influential in pushing Joe to run for a second term, helping with the campaign, and stomping through battleground states to make it happen. But the plan took a turn when party leaders decided to focus on Harris, sidelining Joe, and you don’t have to be a body language expert to see that Frau Doktor isn’t exactly thrilled.

Publicly, of course, they’ve made nice. Jill recently shared warm memories of bonding with Harris over shared experiences, such as losing their mothers to cancer. She painted a picture of Kamala as a compassionate figure with a passion for women’s rights. But to many, it seemed less like a heartfelt speech and more like a line from a PR playbook.

Jill’s grudges are well-known, and if her chilly reception of Kamala during Veterans Day was any indication, those old wounds haven’t exactly healed. To her, Harris may look like the usurper who’s capitalized on Joe’s dwindling popularity. And let’s be honest—Jill knows she’s not the only one thinking it. It’s hardly a stretch to imagine that a Biden second term would have been her ticket to continue enjoying her status and influence, even if everyone suspected Joe wouldn’t make it through all four years. For Jill, watching Joe drift out of the spotlight while Kamala is prepped as the party’s star is likely as bitter as it gets.

But here’s the best part: in just a few short weeks, the entire spectacle will be over. Jill, Kamala, Joe, and their entire entourage will be packing up and heading out. They can squabble over “who’s more compassionate” and talk about their “bonding experiences” all they like—because by January, they’ll be out of Washington, out of the administration, and out of our hair.

No more whispered tensions, no more power plays, and no more headline-grabbing dramas that pretend to show unity. They’ll have all the time in the world to reflect on their little grudges and personal ambitions—just without taxpayer funding and the Oval Office backdrop. For the rest of us, the thought is downright refreshing.
