France Reports Fiber Optic Network Issues

Hello Folks! I trust you’re all doing well. Today, we are looking into a concerning situation involving fibre optic networks in France. These networks, which play an integral role in telecommunications, have reportedly been sabotaged, leading to numerous network outages across the country. French authorities are labeling these actions as ‘cowardly and irresponsible,’ highlighting their significant impact on daily life.

Recalling previous incidents, there were coordinated arson attacks that halted high-speed train services in France not too long ago. This event occurred shortly before the Olympics opening ceremony, causing travel disruption for hundreds of thousands of people. It appears we are witnessing similar attacks now, but this time focused on telecoms networks.

On Sunday, an ultra-left activist was apprehended at a railway site. Authorities are investigating whether this individual is linked to an ‘anti-Olympics’ movement. Further evidence was found on the man, including access keys to SNCF technical premises, tools, and literature associated with the ultra-left.

These alleged activities have affected fiber optic installations in six regions of France, including areas close to Paris, where many of the Olympic games are taking place. Consequently, the network experienced scattered outages, impacting certain fixed and mobile services. France’s junior minister for digital affairs, Marina Ferrari, publicly condemned these actions, assuring citizens that efforts are underway to restore telecom services fully.

The inflicted damage appears to be extensive, impacting the cables in the electrical cabinets owned by phone operators SFR, Bouygues, and Free. The adverse effects of this damage have been felt across other networks as well. Infrastructure in southern France, the Meuse region near Luxembourg, and the Oise area near Paris have reportedly been vandalized. Thankfully, the French capital has not been directly impacted by these actions.

At this stage, no group has claimed responsibility for these actions, and the total number of individuals affected remains unclear. However, we know that a relay antenna was vandalized last Friday, resulting in 2,000 homes without internet in Haute-Garonne, on the outskirts of Toulouse. A group named ‘No JO’ (No Olympics) took responsibility for this incident.

It seems France is facing many attacks with some wondering why…

This is an ongoing story, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
