This charitable organization, created in 1996, was meant to advocate for issues such as mental health, wellness, arts education, and sustainability. However, tax records show that donations to this foundation have plummeted after the infamous slapping incident at the 2022 Oscars.
It was at this event that Will Smith, in a fit of anger, stormed onto the stage and physically assaulted host Chris Rock for making a harmless joke about Jada’s bald head. The impact can be seen in the dramatic decline in donations to the Smiths’ foundation. In 2020 and 2021, the foundation received donations of $1,760,000 and $2,138,660, respectively. However, after the slapping incident in 2022, donations dropped by a staggering 83%, with only $365,870 coming in. This is largely due to the withdrawal of major contributions from American Airlines and Creative Artists Agency (CAA), which had donated $76,160 and $100,000 in 2021, respectively.
