Special Ed Teacher Booked Hotels For Sex With Student

A special education teacher booked hotel rooms at least four times to have sex with a teenage student. Ann Margaret Bacon, 27, confessed after police showed her a photo of the pair at a hotel. She also bought alcohol for other students who partied with them. This happened while she worked at Tartan High School in Oakdale, Minnesota.

Bacon initially claimed the relationship started a month after the boy graduated. She lied to investigators about the timeline. The boy later told police they had been dating exclusively while he was still a student. He even stayed over at her apartment. The teacher finally admitted the abuse began before he graduated.

Records show Bacon booked a room on May 8, June 4, June 11, and for the July Fourth holiday. Witnesses said the pair acted secretively around each other. Explicit photos of both were found on another witness’s phone. The criminal complaint notes a $40 Venmo payment she received that was labeled for “liqq.” She resigned from her job on the same day police interviewed her in February 2024.

Bacon admitted guilt to third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a prohibited occupational relationship. She was sentenced to six months in jail on Monday. The court found she abused her position of trust. This is a clear violation of the duty parents place in school staff. She hired a special education role in August 2022 and left in February 2024.

A similar case in Kentucky shows a lifetime ban for a teacher who sent explicit texts. Rachel Clement, 29, confessed to sex abuse charges involving a student. Henderson County Circuit Judge Karen Wilson accepted her pleas to two counts of first-degree sexual abuse. She also admitted to tampering with physical evidence. Clement will never teach in the United States again.

Life-long registration as a sex offender on the national registry is required for her. The deal also bars her from any contact with the victim or the school district. Prosecutors amended the charges as part of the plea agreement. Henderson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Herb McKee Jr. said all parties agreed with the recommendations. “We believe the evidence fit those charges,” he said, according to the New York Post.

For each sex abuse charge Clement could face three years, plus five years for evidence tampering. She will be sentenced on Jan. 4, 2027.
