The newly sworn-in Attorney General wasted no time making it clear that the days of prioritizing illegal immigrants over American citizens are over. And if the state of New York thought they could keep thumbing their nose at federal law without consequences, well—surprise! Bondi just put them at the top of her to-do list.
At her first press briefing, Bondi announced federal charges against New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James, and DMV Commissioner Mark Schroeder, calling out their blatant refusal to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement. Their crime? Enacting laws designed to shield illegal immigrants from accountability while making life harder for law-abiding Americans. Because in Hochul’s New York, the rights of people who entered the country illegally somehow take precedence over those of tax-paying citizens.
But Bondi made it crystal clear: “New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops today.”
“New York didn’t listen, so now you’re next,” Bondi continued.
“This is a new DOJ,” Bondi declared, “and we are taking steps to protect Americans.”
And it’s about time. Bondi’s DOJ is already taking on Illinois and Chicago for their sanctuary laws, and now New York is up next. Apparently, Democrats in these states thought they could ignore federal immigration law indefinitely, but as Bondi bluntly put it, “If you are a state not complying with federal law, you’re next. Get ready.”
This is more than just a legal battle—it’s about real lives. Case in point: Tammy Nobles, an angel mom who had to stand in front of the nation and relive the horror of her daughter’s murder at the hands of an MS-13 gang member. Kayla Hamilton was just 20 years old when she was brutally raped, strangled, and robbed of a whopping six dollars by an illegal immigrant who should have never been in this country to begin with. And yet, because of the Biden administration’s reckless immigration policies, this violent criminal was not only allowed in but was flown to Maryland, where he committed this unspeakable crime.
How many more stories like this have to happen before Democrats admit their sanctuary policies are a disaster? Bondi didn’t mince words, pointing out that Hamilton’s killer had already admitted to committing multiple murders and rapes before ever setting foot in the U.S. And yet, the left still has the audacity to claim that sanctuary policies make communities safer. Tell that to Kayla Hamilton’s family. Tell that to the thousands of other angel families who have lost loved ones because Democrat-led cities and states refuse to enforce the law.
New York’s so-called “green light” law is one of the worst offenders. Not only does it allow illegal immigrants to evade ID checks if they get pulled over, but it also actively blocks police and the DMV from sharing information with federal immigration authorities. And if that’s not outrageous enough, the state even has a built-in “tip-off” provision, where the DMV commissioner is required to notify illegal immigrants if ICE is trying to track them down. That’s not just reckless—it’s unconstitutional. And Bondi made sure to highlight exactly why her DOJ is taking action.
