Biden’s VP Email: A Family Business Affair (29K of Them)

Vice President Joe Biden exchanged nearly 29,000 emails with his family and their business firms while in office, according to a new report from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). The report found that Biden used his official VP email address to communicate with his son Hunter, brother James, and other family members about a variety of topics, including business deals, family matters, and personal requests.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request obtained through America First Legal showed Biden used his vice presidential email account to exchange more than 29,000 emails with his son Hunter, his brother Jim, and their business groups. This directly contradicts a previous claim Biden made during his 2020 presidential campaign.

The report also found that Biden used his VP email address to communicate with representatives of several business firms that his family members were involved in, including Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian energy company where Hunter Biden served on the board of directors.

The release of the NARA report has raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the use of government resources for personal gain. Critics have accused Biden of using his position as vice president to benefit his family and their business interests.

“These damning numbers further confirm that there was never a wall separating the Office of the Vice President and Hunter Biden’s business endeavors,” the non-profit law group led by former senior members of the Trump administration said in an X-post. “In fact, there was extensive commingling between them.”

Biden said in 2019 that he never discussed business matters with his son or brother and pledged there would be “an absolute wall” between his administration and personal and private matters.

“There wasn’t any hint of scandal at all when we were there,” Biden said at the time. “And I will impose the same kind of strict, strict rules. That is why I have never talked with my son or my brother or anyone else in the distant family about their business interests, period.”

The House Oversight Committee has requested access to all of Biden’s VP emails, including those that he exchanged with his family and business associates. The committee has also subpoenaed several witnesses, including Hunter Biden and Eric Schwerin, a former business partner of Hunter Biden.
