Hasan Piker faced heavy online criticism this weekend after posting a comment targeting the wife of Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas.
Gill fired back on X, calling Piker a “poster child” for ending birth tourism. He noted Piker was born to Turkish nationals and raised to hate Western civilization. Piker then shifted the attack to Gill’s personal life with a short post: “your wife is indian.” This move turned a policy debate into a personal war.

Gill responded immediately to defend his family. He stated, “My wife is an American, born in America to American citizens.” He added that she “deeply loves our nation and its culture.” Gill contrasted this with Piker, whom he called a foreign invader wanting to turn America into a third-world culture.
Gill’s father-in-law, filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza, joined the fight on social media. He wrote online, according to RedState, “She’s Christian, born in America and her mom is white. Care to show us a picture of your family?” D’Souza highlighted that the target of Piker’s insult is an American patriot.

Other conservative voices rallied to support the Gill family. Rep. Riley Moore, R-W.Va., wrote, according to Fox News, “Wrong. She’s a patriotic American, and you’re a terrorist (sympathizer) who hates this country.” Attorney Will Chamberlain from the Internet Accountability Project called Gill’s wife an American patriot while labeling Piker a Turkish adversary. Trump ally Alex Bruesewitz simply wrote, “You don’t get it and you never will.”

Not everyone agreed with the harsh tone used by Gill’s supporters. Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., criticized D’Souza for focusing on race. Kinzinger wrote on X, “Imagine having to say ‘her mom is white’ for street cred.” He called the behavior “self hating” and noted the MAGA movement’s reaction seemed “weird” to him.

The argument centers on who truly loves this country. Piker’s claim that America is worse than Al-Qaeda drew immediate outrage from conservatives. A GOP strategist named Nathan Brand called Piker a surrogate for Democrat Abdul El-Sayed. He noted Piker is a leading voice in the Democrat Party today.
