President Trump demanded Congress pass a federal tax incentive to save the American film industry immediately. He made this call on Truth Social after meeting with actor Jon Voight. According to reports, Republicans and Democrats must unite right away to create legislation protecting America’s Movie, Television, and Entertainment Business.
He argued that the current situation is a crisis for the nation. According to reports, Trump wrote that “Hollywood is a Complete and Total Disaster!” He believes the industry has fled the country due to high costs and taxes. The President wants to bring those jobs back to the United States right now.
Trump insists this move will create thousands of entertainment jobs across the country. He plans to work with leaders from both political parties to get the bill passed. “Meetings are being set up with the Leaders of both Parties in order to get this done,” he said. He noted that the process can happen fast if everyone agrees.
The push follows a meeting between Trump and Jon Voight, whom he appointed as a special ambassador. The New York Post noted Trump wrote about a GREAT, very interesting meeting with his Hollywood Ambassador and Movie Legend, Jon Voight. Voight has been lobbying the administration to stop studios from moving production overseas.
Voight hates what has happened to the industry, according to reports. Trump stated that the actor told him, “He hates what’s happened to it! … Hollywood is a Complete and Total Disaster!” The idea to fix this is also supported by Democratic Senator Adam Schiff. They both want a federal credit to help producers stay in America.
According to the Washington Examiner, members of Congress are already working on the legislation. It could be introduced as soon as September. The proposed plan would include a 20% credit for labor in front of and behind the camera. It would also require that most of the work goes to U.S. personnel.
Trump believes the cost of these tax breaks will pay for itself quickly. He claimed the funds spent will be made up “tenfold by the money pouring into the Treasury’s coffers.” The Washington Examiner reported that he sees this as a way to stop money from leaving the country. He wants to ensure the movies we watch are made in the U.S. again.
The President emphasized that this should be a bipartisan effort. He remarked that the effort must be Bipartisan, particularly given the massive financial losses occurring in California and other largely Blue States. He argues that the loss hurts all Americans, not just those in Hollywood. The goal is to restore the industry to what it once was.
Trump concluded his message with a direct plea for action. He wrote, “What we watch on the Silver Screen should be made in what was once the Movie and Motion Picture Capital of the World.” He added, “Let’s get this done!” The focus remains on saving American jobs and bringing production home.
